I have insured my dog with petplan since he was a puppy but the price of insurance is now exorbitant and the benefits do not merit this price. I wish I had canceled the policy years ago but there's always that feeling that you might cancel just before you need it! My dog is 13 but healthy and we have never claimed on the policy. The renewal came in at over £90 per month, plus an increase in the excess and liability for 20% of any treatment costs. I appreciate that an older animal is a higher risk although by definition the insurance would not have to cover long term health treatments which might be the case if a young dog develops an illness. I would never insure a pet with them again but would put money aside to pay for any vets' bills. I feel that they lure you in with very cheap prices at the beginning but once your pet is 10 the premiums escalate.
