Petgevity Pet insurance launched in 2020 to provide flexible insurance cover that can evolve with pets' needs. Since then, the cover has been awarded Best Pet Insurance Provider by the Times Money Mentor Awards in 2024 and was a winner in the National Insurance Awards Pet Insurance Award in 2022, 2023 and 2024. The Lifetime Plus cover for vet fees over £4,000 with all optional extras has been awarded a Defaqto 5 star award, with the Lifetime cover winning a 3 star rating.
All cover options have no upper age limit with Petgevity offering two types of cover: Lifetime cover and Lifetime Plus cover. For both policies you can choose the right level of vet fee cover for you.
Lifetime cover offers straightforward cover for all new illnesses, conditions and accidents and there is no time limit on how long your pet can be treated as long as you renew your policy with no break in cover. Excess amounts are not compulsory until your cat reaches the age of 10 and your dog reaches the age of 8 when co-pay of 20% becomes compulsory. If you do opt to have an Excess you can choose your Excess amount. You can choose to add optional extras to your policy to create the right cover for you and your pet.
The Lifetime plus cover also lets you tailor your policy to your pet’s health and includes cover for pre-existing conditions as long as you disclose them when you take out your policy. There is a choice of vet fee limits, and ongoing conditions can be covered as long as you keep your policy active. Dental accidents are covered as is behavioural treatment and some complementary therapy treatments. In addition the policy covers the cost of emergency pet care if you have your own emergency up to a limit of £1,500, and £2million of Third Party Liability cover is offered for dogs. You can choose whether or not to have an Excess amount and the amount you will pay and add an optional percentage of each vet bill you will cover if required.
There is no requirement to pay a percentage of your bill no matter how old you pet is. There are also Puppy and Kitten policies and Older Cat and Dog policies available, as well as multi-pet options.
All customers have access to the FirstVet app offering 24/7, 365 access to UK vets via live video call.
In 2025 89% of claims were accepted by Petgevity, with 82% paid within 14 days of a claim being submitted.
Lifetime Pet Insurance Cover
For dog and cat policies, choose between £1,000 and £15,000 worth of vet fee cover per year for all conditions, illnesses and accidents that occur after the policy is taken out. Pre-existing conditions are not covered. All Lifetime Pet Insurance policies will cover your pet for life as long as you keep the policy in place and pay the premiums. The Lifetime policies also offer lower cover limits (that vary depending on level of vet fee cover policy you buy) for complementary treatments up to £1,500, behavioral treatment up to £1,000, accident dental treatment, cruciate ligament treatment and MRI or CT scans up to your chosen vet fee limit or £2,000 whichever is the lower amount. Emergency care cover up to £750 and Third Party Liability cover up to £2million for dogs. Missing pet cover and Farewell cover are included as standard up to £5,000 or your vet fee limit, whichever is the lower amount. You can also add optional cover for Dental Illness and Travel and Holiday ACO cover.
Lifetime Plus Pet Insurance Cover
For dog and cat policies choose between £1,000 and £15,000 worth of vet fee cover per year for all conditions, illnesses, accidents and disclosed pre-existing conditions that occur after the policy was taken out. The policy covers Behavioural Treatment and Complementary Therapy up to your chosen vet fee limit or the cost of 12 sessions, whichever is lower. Accidental dental injury is covered up to your chosen vet fee amount. Euthanasia and special diet food are covered up to £250. Cruciate ligament treatment, MRI and CT scans are covered up to £2,000 or your chosen vet fee limit, whichever is the lower amount. Emergency care for your pet should you have an emergency is covered up to £1,500 and third party liability for dogs of £2million is included. You can opt to include dental illness cover and/or missing pet cover if your pet is lost or stolen up to your chosen vet fee limit or £5,000, whichever is lower. You can also opt to add Farewell cover of up to £5,000 or your vet fee limit whichever is the lower amount, and travel cover.
Note that bi-lateral conditions are considered to be one condition. This means cover for any condition occurring on both sides of the body is only covered up to the value of your annual vet fee cover or the lower limit, which ever is the lower amount.
Excess payments, or the amount you contribute to each claim are optional for Lifetime plus policies and you choose what level of Excess or co-pay to have if you want them.
Excess payments are optional for Lifetime policies. Co-pay of 20% is compulsory for cats once they are 10 and dogs once they are 8.
Pets can be insured from 4 weeks of age. There is no upper age limit for Lifetime Plus policies. Lifetime policies do not have an upper age limit but do have a compulsory Excess co-pay percentage for cats of 10 years and over and dogs of 8 years and over.
You are covered for accidents after the first 2 days and for illnesses after the first 14 days of your policy. If you can provide evidence that your pet is previously insured up to the start date of the policy, this waiting period is waived.
24/7 vet help line available for calls or video calls.

In 2020 Petgevity asked themselves "isn’t it time pets had the support they need to live long, healthy lives—regardless of their health history?" Petgevity realised that just like us, cats and dogs can face a range of health challenges, and they deserve the same level of care. It didn’t sit right with them that lots of pets were being held back from the right insurance cover simply because of their past medical history. So, in 2021, Petgevity made a promise: that they would be here to support pets in living long, healthy lives by providing the right care, the right cover, and the right protection. They are "putting paws up for progress", because every pet should get the care they deserve, and the future they’re worthy of.
