Coverage

All of Tesco's Pet Insurance policies cover dogs and cats from 8 weeks of age. All policies provide cover for accidents, illnesses and injury. Dental work needed as a result of an accident or illness is also covered as long as your pet has had annual dental checks ups and all recommended work has been done. They offer up to £1000 to help you find your missing pet and up to £1,500 if your pet cannot be found, up to £200 for arranging a cremation or burial and refunds of up to £1,500 for death from an accident or illness (except for dogs over 5 or 8 depending on the breed, and cats over 10 who die from an illness). All policies have an excess amount applied to any claim. All Tesco Pet Insurance customers have access to vetfone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week which allows you to get help and advice from registered vets and vet nurses whenever you are concerned about your pet.

Pre-existing conditions are not covered, and certain breeds of dog are not covered.

You can choose from the following three types of cover and choose the level of vet fee cover that suits you best.

Lifetime Cover

Choose between on-going cover for vet fees of £3,000, £5,000, £7,500 or £11,000 per year. Your chosen level of cover will be re-instated each year if the policy is renewed without a break in cover and all your premiums are paid. This means that if your pet develops an on-going illness or a recurring illness your Tesco Lifetime Cover policy offers cover and doesn't put a time limit on how long treatment can last.

Maximum Benefit Cover

Choose between maximum vet fee payout limits of £5,000 or £7,500 per year, per condition, illness or accident. Your pet will be covered for each new illness, accident or condition up to the maximum level of vet fee cover you select. Once the limit is reached for that condition it will no longer be covered.

Time Limited Cover

Choose between a vet fee pay out limit of either £3,000 or £5,000 for each new illness, accident or condition up to 12 months from the first date of treatment. Once either the vet fee limit or 12 months is reached cover will cease for that particular condition, illness or accident.

Additional Benefits for all policy types

All Tesco Pet Insurance customers can use the vetfone 24/7 service to speak to qualified vets or vet nurses if you are worried about your pet and need some advice.

Clubcard holders can get a Clubcard discount. If you insure more than one pet with Tesco you can get a discount on each pet you add to your policy.

You can spread the cost of your insurance by paying monthly by Direct Debit at no extra cost to you.

Excess

An excess will apply to your policy which will be detailed in your policy document. There will be a compulsory Excess amount and an additional variable amount you can opt to add on. Once your dog reaches 5 or 8 years old (depending on their breed) or your cat reaches 10 years of age, an Over-age Excess will apply which will be equal to 20% of each claim you make.

Age Limits

Dogs and cats can be insured from 8 weeks of age. Any pre-existing conditions or illnesses are not covered.

Waiting Period

All policies have a waiting period of 14 days before you can claim for illnesses and 3 days for accidents.

Exclusions

Pre-existing conditions and illnesses are not covered and some breeds of dog are not covered.

I’ve had my claim knocked back due to them not reading the diagnosis & jumping to conclusions. My vet has even challenged their decision via a letter.
Another claim made for a different diagnosis which actually took my dogs life & they haven’t even...

This company will use any excuse as a pre existing condition when it is not, to avoid paying out on a claim. This is the worst pet insurance company I have ever used in all my years of owning dogs.
