AF recently declined a claim for my elderly cat. They said my cat had an exclusion for gall bladder issues 3 years ago so the current claim for kidney issues was declined as it ''could'' be linked. They did not request further info. Just declined the claim. I advised them our cats records clearly show he had NOT had any gall bladder problems and I told our vet who kindly also wrote them a letter confirming this and the previous illness was pancreatitis and NOTHING to do with gall bladder. They didnt respond. Having received no acknowledgement and after posting my first review(elsewhere), I finally received an email yesterday advising they have now accepted the claim, but having taken off the excess, 20% self payment, and most of the blood test cost, they only paid out 1/3 of the vet fees. They state they will only pay £18 towards the cost of any blood test and I quote ''If your vet decides a blood sample is needed, the most we can pay for this is £18.'' I wonder if anyone else finds this as absurd and disingenuous as I do? Average fees are £180-£200 for test and lab screening etc. Of course they wont offer you this information when you take out a policy with them. We also had NO apology from them for their errors (or lies) in suggesting our cat had exclusions for gall bladder etc, nor to our vet for him having to write a letter to them, nor for the delays etc. My advice would be find an ethical insurance company NOT AF or just put money aside each month, I could have covered our recent vet bill in just several months instead of paying money to this company - underwriters are Red Sands by the way - good name for a hellish organisation.
