When our beautiful, cuddly, white,Goldie named Honey yelped and collapsed after limping on her front right leg while chasing a tennis ball, my distraught wife and I carried her across a field to our car all the while fearing she had broken her leg. Carrying a large dog (40k) was no easy matter but after fifteen minutes of total mental and physical exhaustion we did it. She lay quietly, her large brown eyes begging for help. Frantically I grabbed my phone searching for the Vets number. For some reason only the locum Vet was available and she referred us to Caterham Hill Vet Hospital after I told her what had happened. I rang the Hospital and was not only worried about Honey but what cover there was for any surgery. the Surgeon said 'just bring her' and he'll sort the rest. When we arrived he took her in, performed a quick check followed by an X-ray and when at last she came out, Honey was still limping. He explained that she had pulled a muscle and that the pain killer he'd administered would slowly kick in. We hugged her and shook his hand, relieved. Then I asked about the Vet cost and waited for the bombshell. He smiled and said that prior to our arrival he had contacted our Vet, got permission to obtain our details with The Kennel Club and spoken to them. He told us he found their approach, caring, extremely compassionate and very professional. The invoice though big was nothing to their help in advising us how to put in a claim. While he aided my wife to get Honey back into the car, I rang The Kennel Club reception team and burst into tears while thanking them for their fantastic response in our hour of desperation. I cannot speak highly enough of their assistance on that black day including the comment 'don't let her play with that tennis ball again.' I smiled, thanked them and took Honey back home.
