Having had various insurance policies over the years for other pets & having good & not so good experiences. When we got our 2 little pups We knew exactly who we didn’t want to use again,so we started down the road of research research research.
Now we had already discarded some of the more known names out there due to poor prior experiences over the years. We couldn’t find anything on the comparison sites for Agria ,we had never heard of them, our pups came with 6 weeks free Agria insurance from the breeder.
So we read up all about the company & to be honest we loved what we were seeing, we put a call in to them to discuss the quotes & honestly the man we spoke to took his time to go over every detail of the policy types, we discussed every point & he gave us options we actually ended up taking out the highest crem de le crem of plans as we wanted everything to be covered. Just in case.
You just never know when or if you will need to use it.
Now you may go all the way through the dogs life & never make a claim - which is great as it was worth it for peace of mind alone … however we had a problem arise when poppy was 4 mths old she needed specialist orthopaedic surgeon due to a knee cap issue.
We were referred to a top specialist who saw her & immediately told us what was needed to fix her leg, within 8 days of recovery her other knee went ( he advised this may happen due to her using it differently to compensate for the one which had just been operated on…..
mri scans , overnight stays , x rays , intricate surgery on both back legs / knees which isn’t an ideal situation especially on a 4 mth old puppy.
Now we were dreading the bill it ended up being ( 12k ) but we need not have worked at all as Agria dealt with our orthopaedic specialist & paid them direct saving us having to outlay first & claim back second .
We had only made 2 insurance payments to Agria & they literally covered 12k with no issue at all…..
Our other dog Daisy had a dental issue at 6 mths old she seemed to not want to eat with the front of her mouth & was not playing as usual ,so again our vet referred us to a dental magician ( now most companies don’t cover dental work ) Agria did & they dealt with the specialist direct meaning we didn’t need to outlay the 3.5k bill for daisy.
Delicate bones on a 6mth old tiny puppy & the specialist ended up having to extract teeth due to overcrowding & also one was a double root with a sore under it at below gum level so that was removed also, he also spotted other things he was able to remedy at the same time whilst she was under…
He said the gum / jaw bones were so tiny & paper thin it was a tricky surgery due to age , size , smaller face & the fact she was still in active growing phase.
Now both of our dogs are 15 mths old,
they have recovered & healed so well, you wouldn’t know or be able to tell that they had gone under for the major surgeries they both had, but we will say Agria Pet Insurance went to great lengths to ensure we as the owners had minimal stress , kept us updated of the claims progress at every stage .
The renewal came though this year & claiming what we had done so early into the policy we expected a huge jump in pricing ..
no we were so happy ….. when we say it was only a £3 per month per dog increase so literally less than £100 more than last year for both dogs having claimed 15.5k
