Less for more £

We have been with KC insurance for 7 years and have seen premiums double in this time. They have increased vet fees benefit but reduced age of dog to pay out for death from illness from 10 yrs to 9 yrs.
I would not recommend this insurance as it is a rip off. I have not made a claim but be warned they won't pay out when you do.

Just to clarify - you say they won't pay out if you make a claim but you actually have never made a claim. And also they don't pay out for the death of the dog after a certain age. As far as I'm aware most companies have these restrictions... or atleast the companies I've been with do

I feel a lot of people have the wrong impression of what pet insurance is and to some extent that is not surprising given the way it is marketed.

It is essentially a gamble. You bet your pet is going to need treatment that exceeds the cost of your premiums and the insurance company bets that it will not.

The bet has to be reevaluated each time you come up for renewal and you need to read the policy carefully at that time in order to make an informed decision.

People with pets and not the means to fork out thousands in vet fees in what could be a very short period of time and with days notice are at a significant disdadvantage to those wit hthe means to pay any such bills so they can afford to play a different game.

With an older dog you can expect the gamble to be less attractive for the insurer and the other way round if you have a puppy and the insurers are expecting to tie you in for several years.

So play the game well but do not expect your opponent to give quarter unless you have them in a weak position.

The insurance ombudsman and the cost of court action are a worthwhile consideration for customers and insurers too - so dont forget about them in your calculations.

I've continued my cover for my puppy following his 5 weeks free insurance from the breeder as my pup got poorly a week or so after coming home with us with all sorts of bacteria in his gut requiring weeks of antibiotics. I carried the insurance on because when the time to claim came it was too close to the end and I wasn't certain another company would cover him for this incident happening. I sent the claims form off 3/4 weeks ago, how long roughly do they take to process claims on average? I panic I need the money back from the claim incase he gets poorly again and I can't cover he bills. He's my first puppy so I kind of panic with him since our first month together was a sickly nightmare.
