bad for older pets

2

I have had my dog insured with them for 10 years. I have just received my renewal and premiums have gone up from £26 to £47. When I called they said it is because my pet is 11. They were unhelpful and wouldn't budge on price. Seems you get nothing for loyalty

My dog has been insured with Tesco since 2011, she has had 2 serious ops since then and the monthly premium has gone up from £18.50 to £88. This morning I received my renewal they want £167.70 a month. When I rang to complain they were unhelpful and unsympathetic using the excuse my dog is almost 10 years old with ongoing condition (arthritis) which makes it difficult to go elsewhere but animal friends say they will insure my dog for £83 pm minus the arthritis. This is not a problem because the medication prescribed is cheaper to purchase (with prescription) online at pet prescription. Disgusting, I will NOT be recommending Tesco for anything in future.

Tesco do penalise pets as they get older, my premium jumped by 33% last year, can't wait to see what it is this year!.
As I am on a pension if it goes up by this amount again I will just put money aside, I think most vets realise that costs are expensive, our vet will let you pay so much off a week/month...Pity vets don't do their own insurance, though they probably contribute to the high cost of pet insurance by using expensive medication for animals, as I know to my cost.
