Coverage

The John Lewis Pet Insurance policies are all Lifetime Pet Insurance products offering cover for vet fees up to the chosen limit per year for all conditions except those in evidence before the inception of the policy (pre-existing conditions). This means that they will cover claims for vet fees up to the policy limit each year. Cover for an condition will continue in any subsequent year providing the policy is renewed with no break in cover. Cover is provided for Third Party Liability for dogs only, with a £250 excess on each claim. All policies offer cover for death from illness or accident (up to 9 years of age), emergency boarding fees if you are ill, accidental damage cover, advertising cost cover if you pet is lost or stolen, and complementary treatments with applicable pay out limits for each item from within the overall cover limit.

Choose between vet fee cover options of £3,000 in the Essential policy, £7,500 in the Plus Lifetime policy, and £12,000 vet fee cover in the Premier policy. The Plus and Premier policies offer cover for overseas travel with your pet, or holiday cancellation due to a pet emergency.

Excess

Variable. For pets over 9 years you pay a larger excess or 20% of the claim, whichever amount is greater.

Age Limits

From 8 weeks of age.

Waiting Period

14 days for illness, 48 hours for death or injury.

I would advise against using John Lewis Pet Insurance. We are tied in to them because of our pet's condition, otherwise we would leave them. I have had to contact them many times to clarify claims. Upon calling they often say that the screen is slow to...

Just checked my bank account and, surprise surprise, another unadvised premium hike by JL for my pet insurance. I called them, got some spiel about my dog getting older, vet fees increases etc etc. Been with JL for four years, have seen the price go up...

I have insured my whippet with JL since he was 2. The first year was very cheap but it has rocketed every year since - he is now 6. This year he broke a toe nail and needed a lot of antibiotics and an op. So we have claimed around £250 ( paid out £320)....
