Coverage

The Direct Line Essential Pet Insurance cover is a 12 month Time Limited policy offering up to £4,000 cover per condition in 12 months. Cover is for accident, injury and illness, and complementary treatments per condition. Once the limit is reached that condition will no longer be covered. Individual treatment limits may apply.

Their Advanced Cover is a Maximum Benefit policy offering £8,000 per condition with no time limit and covers accidents, illness, disease, complementary treatments and dental disease up to £1,000 cover, included in the overall cover limit. Once the policy limit is reached for each condition that condition is no longer covered by the policy and becomes a pre-existing condition. Additional cover available for Advertising and rewards if your pet is lost, overseas travel cover, pet boarding fees if you are hospitalised, death cover up to £1,500, lost pet cover, holiday cancellation cover because of your pets urgent needs.

Third Party Liability cover is available for dogs up to £2.5million.

Excess

£80 excess for vet fees for cats and £95 excess for vet fees for dogs. Optional voluntary excess of £160 for cats and £190 for dogs. Third Party Liability cover has a £250 excess.

Age Limits

Cover available from 8 weeks of age to 11 years (up to 6 years for some breeds of dogs).

Waiting Period

14 days.

I have claimed ×2 in 12 months. 1st foot, toe infection 1300 was paid, 2nd elbow coronoid disease cost £4000+
I have to pay £1300 as my policy cover up to £4000. Just received email and all is sorted. I can't complain at all.

Never made a claim in 5 years for my dog. Recently he had an ear infection which cost over £500 to resolve. Direct Line decided as he had an ear infection in 2019 this was a recurring illness and turned down claim. Vet wrote to them saying in his opinion...

Our lovely dog was in trouble and ultimately needed to be put to sleep. Direct Line wouldn't pay for the dog to be uthenised - we wonder why we paid £90 per month only to find they had uthenasia as an exclusion in the small print. No other claims. The vet...
